Old Lada Rally Car

We hopped down to Estonia for a few days and I found that it’s possible to rent an old Lada rally car to rip around a rallycross track. Cue us driving an hour south just to give it a whirl; quite a piece of rally history when you factor in Eastern Bloc differences from way back. Took me a few laps to get the hang of it but was great fun after that.

Rally Colorado

Not quite the result I wanted or needed, but finished 3rd in National LW2D at Rally Colorado. Went through a lot of issues and recovering to a podium after that is probably the best one could ask for.

Thanks to River City Rally for the crew and car this weekend, kept it running well and fixed my idiotic DNF result from day 1. Thanks to Kendra Miller for co-driving a tricky event, with the crazy temperatures and constant changing schedule.

I didn't expect this event to mess with my head, but crashing here last year - and destroying a car - apparently does that. A decent return to driving form and "alright" finish capped off day three though, so can't complain. On to Colorado.

The end of a 2 day race - and I am clearly exhausted at this point. We only lost by 15 seconds though! We had a healthy (ish) lead coming in to the end, but a run-in with a cone that another competitor inadvertently left on a stage led to us having a brief encounter with a snowbank. Such is rally, I guess. I don't want that to take away from the results though: Santiago Iglesias and Robert Kassel ran one hell of a race and it was a crazy fun weekend battling it out with them. Here's to hoping we can give them another run at Hundred Acre Wood in a few weeks! (Also: never let yourself get sprayed with champagne in sub zero temps, because holy hell do the hands hurt when they freeze afterwards).
