Kaleidoscope Christmas Tree

Christmas in Japan seemed muted this year until I stumbled on this massive thing. One of the coolest takes on a Christmas tree that I’ve ever seen.

A very wet and rainy Fuji Speedway. The sky is gray and overcast.

Fuji Speedway, Day 2

Was not blessed with sunshine and dry track today - but it’s been an incredible experience nonetheless. Had all of Fuji to myself in wet weather, hard to imagine ever having that opportunity again!

Fuji Speedway

Managed to sneak in one final event for 2025. This time it’s another legendary track! In sims I’m never as fast as I want to be here so I’m really interested to see how it feels in real life.

Oz Coffee Shop

On the way to a motorsports store to buy an emergency replacement helmet, I stumbled on this coffee shop and decided to try it out. Great coffee - and allergy friendly desserts if you’re the kind to partake.

An orange glow floods the far reaches of the ocean. Waves settle on the beach as the clouds split into multiple colors.

OBX Sunrise

Forced myself out of bed to catch the sunrise on the Outer Banks. Even with adjustments to the photo, it’s hard to capture how stunning the view was.

An old white lighthouse rises in to clear blue skies. There’s a window visible on the front.

My White Whale

When I’d visit here as a kid, the interior was always closed off to the public. In the last year or so they apparently finally opened up the base. Was cool to finally see inside! The Ocracoke Island lighthouse is the second oldest lighthouse in the country. Neat bit of history.

Jank Tiki

Stumbled on a weird tiki bar on a pier, tucked away on the backside of the beach. Was a useful stopping point on an otherwise long drive.

A sign displays text welcoming people to the outer banks. A dilapidated motel is visible in the background.

Down East

Had always been curious about this side of the Outer Banks, wound up with a reasonable excuse to come up from the southern side. Longer ferry ride over Ocracoke but some stunning views.

A colorful but rusting ferris wheel sits among some trees. The sky is blue.

Soviet Era Ferris Wheel

A very odd part of the world. Walking through here feels like simultaneously being in an old Soviet era and the modern era.

Vintage Eames Animation

Stopped in to an old haunt of ours for a drink (well, three, to be precise). Got to chatting with the bar owner about the films they were showing. I’d heard about these but not seen them myself - really interesting bit of history that will stop me from ever looking at a certain chair the same way again.

Downpour in Sangenjaya

Walking to Shimokita and looking for dinner. We eventually found refuge in a soup curry shop.

An old, beat up station wagon sits at the base of towering skyscrapers.

Americana, ish

Stumbled on this relic parked in an alleyway in Toranomon. I’d love to know who’s driving it, just due to the absurdity of it all.
